9:15-11:15 Shakerag Wildflower Hike I. (2.5 miles. Moderate/Difficult, steep descent and ascent.) Led by members of the Sewanee Herbarium. Considered one of the premiere wildflower areas In the Southeast.
9:30-10:00 SAS Nature Loop I (Easy) Take a short stroll with entertaining guide Michael Green, President of the Board of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Chattanooga. See wild azalea, ferns, pink lady slippers, and other natives.
10:00-11:00 Piney Point Hike with Dr. George Ramseur, this year’s recipient of the Yeatman Environmental Education Award, (1.2 mi. Easy-moderate) The trail, which ends in a spectacular bluff overlook, passes through sandstone outcrops, moss-lined bogs; and an upland forest of azalea, mountain laurel, oaks, and shortleaf pine.
11:30-12:00 SAS Nature Loop Walk II. (Easy) Take a short stroll with entertaining guide Michael Green, President of the Board of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Chattanooga. Learn to identify wild azalea, ferns, pink lady slippers, and other natives.
1:45-3:30 Otter Loop Trail Hike (1.2 miles. Easy-moderate. A few steep stretches.) Led by Jean and Harry Yeatman, noted naturalists. The Trails & Trilliums environmental education award is named in Harry’s honor A lovely walk around the perimeter of the campus lake.
2:15-4:00 Abbo’s Alley Walk (Easy. 3/4 mi.) A 5-minute shuttle to the University of the South takes you to a beautiful walk down Abbo’s Alley with a fine array of flowers. Tour guide, Michael Green, President of the Board of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Chattanooga, will entertain you as you walk.

9:00-12:00 Fiery Gizzard Hike (2 miles. Moderate, a few steep sections) Led by The Friends of South Cumberland State Park. Meet in SAS gym parking lot to carpool to the trailhead in Tracy City. Follow the scenic Fiery Gizzard creek in one of the region’s most beautiful areas.
10:00-12:00 Kirby Smith Point Hike (1.5 miles Easy) Meet in SAS gym parking lot to carpool to the trailhead in Clifftops. Spectacular waterfall and bluff overlook along an easy, flat trail with one creek crossing.
