10:00-2:00 KIDS & KRITTERS events for young naturalists. In the Union meadow. All activities are free for children. No pre-registration is needed; children must be accompanied by an adult. Hayrides, Horse rides, Petting Zoo, Fishing, etc. Special Program: Animals of the Rain Forest at 10:30

9:00-11:00 Wildflower Garden Ramble garden tour departures. (Cost $30.00, includes Trails & Trilliums Registration Fee ) Space is limited. Registration suggested. Visit three outstanding woodland gardens in Clifftops that display effective use of native plants, water, and rock. Moderate walking required on woodland paths. Last departure at 11:00. Estimated length of tour is 2 hours.
9:15-11:15 Shakerag Wildflower Hike I. (2.5 miles. Moderate/Difficult, steep descent and ascent.) Led by members of the Sewanee Herbarium. Considered one of the premiere wildflower areas In the Southeast.
9:30-10:00 SAS Nature Loop I (Easy) Take a short stroll with entertaining guide Michael Green, President of the Board of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Chattanooga. See wild azalea, ferns, pink lady slippers, and other natives.
10:00-11:00 Piney Point Hike with Dr. George Ramseur, this year’s recipient of the Yeatman Environmental Education Award, (1.2 mi. Easy-moderate) The trail, which ends in a spectacular bluff overlook, passes through sandstone outcrops, moss-lined bogs; and an upland forest of azalea, mountain laurel, oaks, and shortleaf pine.
11:30-12:00 SAS Nature Loop Walk II. (Easy) Take a short stroll with entertaining guide Michael Green, President of the Board of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Chattanooga. Learn to identify wild azalea, ferns, pink lady slippers, and other natives.

12:30-1:30 KEYNOTE SPEAKER DON SHADOW A fourth-generation nurseryman, Don is the owner of Shadow Nursery in Winchester — an 800-acre nursery & farm with an incredible range of cultivars and exotic animals. His presentation, focused on new and useful plants for gardeners, will include slides of his unusual flora and fauna. The talk will be in the dining hall and you can select and pay for your box lunch as you enter.
1:45-3:30 Otter Loop Trail Hike (1.2 miles. Easy-moderate. A few steep stretches.) Led by Jean and Harry Yeatman, noted naturalists. The Trails & Trilliums environmental education award is named in Harry’s honor A lovely walk around the perimeter of the campus lake.
1:45-2:30 Herb Garden Design Workshop Join ECO-SAS students in a mini-course to creatie a plan for an herb garden. Students will explain the process used to plan and plant the SAS Herb Garden, including color choices, hardiness, height considerations, and bed preparation. Bring the dimensions of your patch or start from scratch.
2:00-2:45 Photographing Nature Workshop Join Brad Wilson, well-known nature photographer and the 2007 Trails & Trilliums Featured Artist, for a session on capturing flora and fauna on film. You will enjoy his spectacular slides
2:15-4:00 Abbo’s Alley Walk (Easy. 3/4 mi.) A 5-minute shuttle to the University of the South takes you to a beautiful walk down Abbo’s Alley with a fine array of flowers. Tour guide, Michael Green, President of the Board of Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Chattanooga, will entertain you as you walk.

A reception honoring Dr. George Ramsuem, recipient of the Yeatman Environmental Education Award, and recognizing the outstanding work of The Friends of South Cumberland State Park. In the Courtyard Garden of the Monteagle Inn. $10.00 per person payable at the door. Live Music by Bazzania, wine and hors d’oeuvres, & brief awards program.
SUNDAY APRIL 20
9:00-12:00 Fiery Gizzard Hike (2 miles. Moderate, a few steep sections) Led by The Friends of South Cumberland State Park. Meet in SAS gym parking lot to carpool to the trailhead in Tracy City. Follow the scenic Fiery Gizzard creek in one of the region’s most beautiful areas.
10:00-12:00 Kirby Smith Point Hike (1.5 miles Easy) Meet in SAS gym parking lot to carpool to the trailhead in Clifftops. Spectacular waterfall and bluff overlook along an easy, flat trail with one creek crossing.
11:00-2:00 NATIVE PLANT SALE continues!

11:30-1:00 Brunch in the SAS Dining Hall. Cost $6.00, payable at the door. Open to the public.
1:00-3:00 Green Art on the Mountain Exhibit and Sale, Artists Reception In the SAS Art Gallery, Simmonds Hall
